SDW 2011 Review

SDW 2011 once again scaled new heights, cementing its position as the world's leading event covering security document, border control and advanced identity management issues.

Celebrating its fifth anniversary, the show, which took place in London's prestigious QEII Conference Centre, had more delegates, visitors and exhibitors than at any time in the show's history.

Reflecting the event's success, just three weeks after the doors closed, 60% of exhibitors had confirmed their participation at SDW 2012. Meanwhile, plans are already being executed to grow considerably the size of the exhibition in 2012 to meet anticipated demand.

The high-quality and quantity of attendees was a key attraction for exhibitors. More than 1200 attendees were present over the three-day event, with 49% coming from outside of the UK and just over 13% from outside of Europe. In total the event had participants from a record 58 countries, 15% more than in 2010.

The show's economic stimulus announced for countries in world regions, such as Africa, Asia and Latin America paid dividends, with numerous governments and corporations making use of the generous discounts offered. Similar initiatives will be continued in 2012.

Overall, more than 20% of attendees to the show represented government organizations – and a further 11% were commercial end users, from sectors such as aviation, transportation and logistics.

Commenting on the event's success, Mark Lockie, SDW Event Director, said: "It is our firm belief that a strong conference programme, extensive exhibition, and fair pricing for all attendees, make this show a compelling proposition. This means that attendees can be sure that they will meet an unprecedented number of industry thought-leaders, government representatives from across the world and skilled technologists. Plus, the show offers visitors the chance to experience the entire supply chain of companies in the business – from chip manufacturers and high-security feature providers, to printers, integrators, reader manufacturers, biometric companies and everyone in between."

More than 330 delegates attended the high-profile conference sessions – again a record. In the region of 50 expert and high-level speakers shared their insight into a whole range of issues, from technical analyses on advanced security document features and detection of counterfeits, to policy issues governing future industry direction. Delegate satisfaction was outstanding, with an average score of 4.3 out of 5 in post-show feedback.
